ABOUT US

META/BOOKS is an experimental research and publishing platform, founded in 2014 by artist Delphine Bedel. META/BOOKS is working closely with artists, photographers, writers, designers and cultural institutions to develop cutting-edge projects - from concept, design to the manufacturing process and distribution. We organise self-publishing workshops and education projects, and curating lectures series and exhibitions. META/BOOKS focuses on media culture, the circulation of images, social, feminist and environmental issues, The recent photobooks include Lassen by Małgorzata Stankiewicz and Malleus Maleficarum by Virginie Rebetez.

Delphine Bedel is a feminist artist, curator, lecturer, and publisher. Her work is exhibited internationally. She’s a frequent speaker in international conferences and seminars, including Centre Pompidou, Paris, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Chelsea College of Art and Design London, etc. She writes for books and magazines. Founder of Meta/Books, a feminist publishing platform and research platform for emerging photographers and designers. Known for her cutting-edge publications and feminist education projects, she works with leading cultural institutions, photography festivals and art and design academies. She is Advisor for the Mondriaan Fund and Member of the German Photography Academy. WORKSHOPS

We organise self-publishing workshops and feminist publishing workshops a few times a year. The workshops are for artists, photographers, designers, writers, bloggers, architects, academics, etc. Delphine Bedel has 12 years of experience teaching publishing. Past workshops took place in 2019 at Contact Photography Festival, Toronto (CA), Universität den Kunst, Berlin, Intersectional Matter (DE), Neue Schüle für Fotografie, Berlin (DE)Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design (DE) and previously at  Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (NL), Kassel Kunsthochschule (DE), Unseen, Amsterdam (NL), Fotodepartament, Saint Petersburg (RU), Geneva University of Art and Design (CH), Design Academy Eindhoven (NL), Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam (NL), Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam (NL). CONSULTING

Delphine bedel provides consulting for book development, make an appointment metabookslab [at] gmail.com. The first consulting session is 2 hours. Standard fees, student discount. 

SUBMISSIONS

META/BOOKS specialises in publishing high-quality publications in the fields of photography, art, design and theory. We also do co-publishing with institutions. Send us a concise text of no more than 250 words in which a short book description and scope of the project a short bio to metabookslab [at] gmail.com and with an accompanying letter (one page) explaining why you want to work with us. A selection of 5 photographs or a few exemplary pages can be added (one attachment, 5 mb max). We review all book proposals once every tow months. We’re a small independent publishing house and each project is tailor made. Due to the high volume of proposals received, we do not give feedback on unsolicited proposals. Submission sent by post will not be considered.
